Carson City Public Works oversees the Regional Transportation Commisson (RTC), Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and operates Jump Around Carson (JAC), the city’s public transit system.

Regional Transportation Commission (RTC)

The RTC, comprised of five Board members who also represent CAMPO, establishes priorities and recommends appropriate funding for transportation improvement projects within Carson City. The RTC meets the second Wednesday of every month after the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Meeting in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, and Carson City residents are welcome to attend these meetings. Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO)

Nevada’s governor designated the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) after Carson City was declared an urbanized area (containing a population of more than 50,000) in 2002. CAMPO is responsible for transportation planning for Carson’s urbanized area, which includes portions of Douglas and Lyon County.

CAMPO consists of representatives from Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). The CAMPO Board meets the second Wednesday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, and the public is welcome to attend these meetings. More about CAMPO…

Jump Around Carson (JAC)

Jump Around Carson, JAC, is Carson City’s public transit system, governed by the city’s Regional Transportation Commission. JAC began operating in October 2005 and features the JAC fixed-route system as well as JAC Assist, a dial-a-ride program that provides transportation for individuals with disabilities. JAC passes are available for only $1 each way, and seniors, youth and disabled are offered a discounted rate of only $.50 each way. More about JAC...
