Membership

The Shade Tree Council consists of seven members serving two year terms, interviewed by the Council and recommended to the Board of Supervisors.  The Council meets on the fourth Thursday of every month at 5:30 p.m. in the Carson City Hall Capitol Conference Room.  Staff Liaisons are Roger Moellendorf and Vern Krahn, Parks and Recreation. 

Purpose

The Shade Tree Council ordinance establishes policies, regulations and standards necessary to ensure Carson City will realize the benefit provided by its community forest.  Some of the provisions of this ordinance are: establish and maintain tree cover on public and private lands; maintain public trees in a safe and healthy condition; establish appropriate diversity in tree species; and promote conservation of healthy trees.

Typical Duties

  • This council advises the Board of Supervisors on all tree related issues involving public, commercial, industrial, business and residential areas.
  • They also do training seminars, Arbor Day events and special tree related projects.
