Application Process
1. Complete the Job Application available online at cchr@ci.carson-city.nv.us2. Submit Application with certification(s) attached to the Carson City Human Resources Department no later than October 26th, 2007 at 5:00PM.
3. Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a testing process scheduled November 14, 15, 16, 2007 in Carson City, Nevada. All candidates must be available for testing ALL three days.
4. Eligibility list will be established based on successful completion of each testing component.
5. Candidates will be notified of testing results, by mail no later than November 9, 2007.
A list of qualified candidates will be maintained for a minimum of one (1) year or until exhausted or determined to be invalid by the respective department Fire Chief. Each successful candidate will be ranked by his/her combined scores and department location preference. Each Department has the option of selecting or rejecting a candidate based on department specific requirements. Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of all portions of the exam procedure and background and related information.

Licenses:
Must posses a valid Driver's license and an acceptable DMV record, and the ability to obtain a Nevada Driver's license with a 'B' and 'F' endorsement at the time of employment. Must have valid Driver’s License with the ability to obtain a Nevada Driver's License with B/F endorsement.Medical:
All agencies require applicants to pass a drug screen for use of illegal substances. Certain agencies also require applicants to complete a psychiatric / psycological test. Contact the specific fire district for details.

The offer of employment is also based on the ability of the applicant to pass fire fighter recruit training. A fire fighter must be trained to the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1001 Level I Firefighting Standard and display competency of the same. Applicant must be capable of qualifying as a driver and operator of any/all emergency vehicles owned and operated by the department. Applicants must be able to display competency in all aspects of firefighting within twelve (12) months of employment.The Written Exam:
The entry-level firefighter written test process consists of six components: A reading ability component, a basic mathematical skills component, a human relations component, a map reading component, a writing ability component, and a reasoning skills component.

Northern Nevada F.I.R.E. will be conducting the Comprehensive Examination Battery, Practical Skills and Work Styles Inventory tests. Written testing is scheduled for Nov. 14, 2007.
Written EMT/Paramedic Exam:
All applicants will take a written EMT and/or Paramedic exam based on National Registry Standards. The source list for the EMT test is: Emergency Care, 8th or 9th edition.
